Gabriel Echávarri: crónica de un fracaso político

Abstract

Tras conseguir el apoyo del resto de partidos de la izquierda y Ciudadanos en Alicante, Gabriel Echávarri se convertía en alcalde de la ciudad por parte del PSPV-PSOE en junio de 2015. Tres años después, el Partido Popular vuelve a gobernar el principal Ayuntamiento de la provincia con ocho concejales después de la dimisión del socialista en abril de 2018. Este reportaje de investigación en forma de artículo pretende analizar, desde la perspectiva política y periodística, el mandato de Echávarri como primer edil y por qué la izquierda, con el gobierno más plural que Alicante ha conocido, no pudo agotar una legislatura debido, entre otros factores, al desgaste interno entre los socios, a una política comunicativa cambiante e improvisada por parte del alcalde y a dos procesos judiciales que afectaron a su persona y que provocaron la salida de Guanyar Alacant y de Compromís per Alacant del pacto de gobierno, dejando a los socialistas solos en el Ayuntamiento.

After gaining the support of the rest of left-wing political parties and Ciudadanos, Gabriel Echávarri became major of the city representing PSPV-PSOE in June 2015. Three years later, Partido Popular retakes the power in Alicante Town Hall, counting with eight councillors after the resignation of the Socialist in April 2018. This research report presented as an article aims to analyse, from a political and journalistic perspective, the mandate of Echavarri as Major and the reasons why the Left, with the most pluralistic government that Alicante has ever known, could not complete a legislature. This was due, among other reasons, to an internal war between the partners, to a changeable communication and improvised policy run by the Major and to two judicial processes concerning the Major which caused the exit from the government of Guanyar Alacant and Compromís per Alacant, leaving the Socialists on their own at the Town Hall.
