This dissertation reflects the labour undertaken as image and
sound editor in the short film Hell West (Fran Mateu, 2018),
filmed collaboratively with the UMH film school. With regards to
the labour done in the short film, professional editing techniques
and procedures have been thoroughly used.
During the extent of the work, different methodologies and technical
solutions have been explored when needs and problems
arose, as well as the artistic licenses and contributions made by
the editor in the creation of the short film itself, emphasising in
this way the role of the editor as artist and technician within an
audio-visual project. Furthermore, an analysis of references with
regards to rhythm, narrative and continuity has been done, with
the end goal of making different genres come together inside the
piece.
Finally, due to the comunal nature of the project, various workflows
in-between the editor and the rest of film departments
involved (direction, sound, VFX) have been studied, with special
detail and attention to the needs wrought by these relationships,
without neglecting technical issues and their solutions.
