Health professionals are confronted by patient’s death, as well as in constant contact with it. Thus, it seems necessary to study the factors that may influence the professional development and attitudes of professionals who integrate death as part of their work and their lives. Objectives. We evaluated the relationship between age, sex, religion, experience, personality and the state of mind with attitudes towards death in nursing assistant students (n=80). Method. It was a descriptive study of a transversal and observational nature. HADS, PRAM, EPQR-A and an Ad -hoc questionnaire were used for evaluation. Results. Relationships were found between religiousness and experience items with attitudes towards death. Women scored higher in fear. The relationships between personality, anxiety and depression variables with the formation of attitudes towards death were not significant. Conclusions. The results suggest that religiosity and experience influenced the formation of attitudes towards death. Fear was higher in women. These data are considered relevant for the training of health professionals
