The present essay describes the assessment and intervention in a single-case study of a 27-year-old woman with an obsessive-compulsive disorder. The assessment of the severity of CBT was evaluated with the Y-BOCS scale, the type of the obsessions and compulsions was evaluated with Padua Inventory, the presence of depressive symptomatology with the BDI-II inventory and the anxiety levels with STAI questionnaire. The patient presented checking and order rituals in which used to spend about 4.5 hours/day. The treatment consisted on a cognitive-behavioural intervention which combined exposure and response prevention and cognitive restructuring technique, as well as, abdominal breathing pharmacotherapy. The objective was to decrease the frequency and duration of obsessions and compulsions, and besides modify cognitive distortions associated to excessive responsibility and perfectionism. The treatment was carried out over 22 weekly sessions of 1.5-2 hours. In the two first sessions the assessment were carried out, from session three until session twenty the treatment was applied, and the two last sessions were dedicated to relapse prevention and post-treatment evaluation. By the end of the treatment, the obsessions and compulsions had almost completely disappeared. The anxiety levels and depressive symptomatology also improved. In the first follow-up interview which was one month later, the results of the intervention were maintained.
