Migraine is a neurovascular disorder characterized by neuronal hyperexcitability and the release of the neuropeptide αCGRP. This condition exhibits marked sexual dimorphism, predominantly affecting women due to the estrogenic modulation of pain. The aim of this study was to evaluate, through a literature review, the neurotoxicological impact of bisphenol A on the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying migraine. Recent scientific evidence indicates that this endocrine disruptor acts by mimicking the endogenous estradiol signaling, thereby altering electrophysiological homeostasis through modulation of the function and expresion of voltage sodium channels, potassium channels and transient receptor potential channels like TRPA1, TRPV1 and TRPM8. The resulting effects include a reduction in neuronal firing threshold, increase αCGRP release, and greater ease the onset of cortical spreading depression. Taken together, these findings suggest that bisphenol A disrupts ionic and hormonal homeostasis, thereby contributing to the pathophysiological development of migraine. Consequently, further research is required to better elucidate its specific relationship with migraine.es_ES
