La precariedad del Monstruo. Monumentos para tiempos inestables

Abstract

Atendiendo al actual tiempo precario, líquido, en el que nada es estable más allá que la generación de residuos, el presente texto sirve de propuesta sobre cómo pueden ser los monumentos que describan esta época: inestables, espontáneos, efímeros y construidos a partir de desechos. Para ello, tomamos como referencia Monstruo: un proyecto de creación artística propia que surge en colaboración junto a Ignacio Pérez-Jofre. Un proyecto que no solo reutiliza la basura abandonada en la urbe, sino también espacios que, al quedar al margen del tejido productivo de la ciudad, quedan relegados a la condición de vertederos ilegales. Fábricas abandonadas, urbanizaciones deshabitadas, descampados… Espacios en los que desechar aquello que debe quedar oculto. Lugares que, igual que un monstruo, cuestionan la integridad de un sistema y advierten sobre un peligro. Lugares resultados de una lógica consumista que, basada en el derroche y desperdicio, necesita desechar, expulsar constantemente para perpetuar su fluidez.

Given the current precarious, fluid times, in which nothing is stable except the generation of waste, this text serves as a proposal for what monuments describing this era might look like: unstable, spontaneous, ephemeral, and built from waste. To this end, we take as our reference Monstruo: an artistic creation project of our own that arose in collaboration with Ignacio Pérez- Jofre. This project not only reuses rubbish abandoned in the city, but also spaces that, being on the margins of the city’s productive fabric, are relegated to the status of illegal dumps. Abandoned factories, uninhabited housing developments, wastelands... Spaces in which to dispose of what must remain hidden. Places that, like a monster, question the integrity of a system and warn of danger. Places that are the result of a consumerist logic based on waste and squandering, which needs to constantly discard and expel in order to perpetuate its fluidity.
