Abstract

Una nueva oleada de terror yihadista resurge en el marco de un convulso panorama internacional. Los gobiernos occidentales se cuelan en el escenario bélico de Siria e Irak en un momento en el que la islamofobia crece en la consciencia colectiva. Los medios de comunicación, por su poder de configurar la opinión pública, podrían estar contribuyendo a retroalimentar esta forma de discriminación. Se intuye que la desinformación y el desconocimiento cimientan un discurso xenófobo basado en estigmatizar a la comunidad árabe que, lejos de sentirse identificada con el grupo insurrecto, es el principal blanco de sus ataques.

A new wave of jihadist terror resurfaces in the context of a convulsive international panorama. Western governments are embroiled in the war stage of Syria and Iraq at a time when Islamophobia is growing in the collective consciousness. The media, because of its power to shape public opinion, could be contributing to feedback this form of discrimination. It is felt that disinformation and ignorance are supported on a xenophobic speech based on stigmatizing the Arab community that, far from feeling identified with the insurgent group, is the main target of their attacks.
