In this study, the effect to grafting of a Muchamiel-type tomato hybrid obtained from the line registered by the Research Group “Agricultural Biodiversity and Genetic Improvement of Varieties” of CIAGRO, UMH 1200. Ten different rootstocks will be compared, as well as the autograft and the non-grafted hybrid. A commercial reference hybrid is included with the same treatments.
The parameters analyzed have been classified into plant vigor parameters (plant height, stem diameter and number of clusters with open flowers), agronomic parameters (production, average fruit weight and number of fruits per plant) and quality parameters (soluble solids content and titratable acidity).
In terms of production parameters, the effect of grafting on the Muchamiel hybrid is greater, possibly due to a higher proportion of traditional genome, which is more susceptible to showing the effect of any increase in production.
In terms of commercial production yield compared to spoilage, the positive effect of grafting on different rootstocks is marked in the case of Muchamiel, probably due to the advantage provided by the resistances in these rootstocks, which must have been lost in the hybrid.
