The current educational system has the responsibility to train integral and educated people who know how to cope with different situations. To achieve this, it is not only necessary for students to acquire theoretical knowledge, but it is also essential to acquire social skills that allow them to manage their emotions, self-manage and act accordingly, favoring the integral development of the individual.
Recently, the educational system has recognized that a person's academic and personal success depends not only on his or her IQ but also on the management of social skills. For this reason, it is being proposed that strategies to educate in emotional management should be implemented at school. This socio-emotional learning has a positive influence on students, improving their motivation, their ability to concentrate, reducing anxiety and favoring favorable social relations. Creating more respectful educational centers and, forming emotionally competent individuals, with greater emotional well-being, capable of facing the challenges of life. Among the different existing techniques to train social skills, one of the most effective is role-play.
Objectives: To analyze whether role-play in the classroom improves students' social-emotional and communication skills.
Methodology: Bibliographic review in different databases. After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 40 articles were selected for inclusion.
Results: people with better emotional management present higher motivation, academic performance and less social conflicts.
Conclusions: Role play is very useful to improve social skills and motivation in students.
