Introduction: eosinophilic gastrointestinal diseases (EGIDs) are a group of emerging immunomediated disorders characterized by an increase in eosinophilic infiltration in the digestive tract in the absence of other causes. It can affect any segment of the digestive tract, differentiating various disorders such as esophagitis, gastritis, gastroenteritis, and colitis. Esophagitis is the most frequent disorder, more common in males, while there are no sex differences in other disorders. The main objective of the study is to describe the epidemiological and clinical variables associated with EGIDs diagnosed in the last 5 years (January 2019 – December 2023) in the Pediatric Department at the General University Hospital of Elche. Results: ten patients with a mean onset age of 7.1 years were included, with 80% males. The total prevalence is 39 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and a total combined incidence of 7.51 cases per 100,000 cases per year. The most frequent symptom was esophageal impaction in 80% of cases, followed by dysphagia and abdominal pain in 70%. All patients had endoscopic findings, with longitudinal furrows being the most frequent in 90% of cases and whitish exudates in 60%. Regarding treatment, all patients received proton pump inhibitors, with other treatments including viscous corticosteroids and diets. The patient with involvement of two types of disorders required treatment with oral corticosteroids and immunosuppression. Conclusions: the epidemiology and clinical presentation of these disorders in the Pediatric Department of the General University Hospital of Elche are similar to those reported in the literature. The use of proton pump inhibitors is fundamental for treatment. Involvement of multiple segments of the digestive tract implies greater severity and more aggressive treatments such as oral corticosteroids and immunosuppressants.
