Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) poses a significant challenge to public health, with high incidence and mortality rates worldwide. Despite advances in treatment, survival rates remain low, especially in advanced stages of the disease.
In this context, chimeric antigen receptor T cell (CAR-T) therapy has emerged as a promising strategy to improve the prognosis of patients with NSCLC.
This work reviews the current scientific evidence on the therapeutic role of CAR-T cells in NSCLC, as well as the limitations and challenges associated with this treatment modality.
Several NSCLC-specific antigens were identified as potential therapeutic targets for CAR-T cells, and the results of preclinical studies and clinical trials evaluating the efficacy and safety of this therapy were discussed.
In addition, other therapies, such as cancer vaccines, were examined as possible complementary treatment options for NSCLC.
It was concluded that CAR-T cell therapy has the potential to significantly improve clinical outcomes in NSCLC, but further research is needed to overcome associated challenges and improve this treatment modality.
