Cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide, with a projected 11.9 million cases diagnosed by 2030. Despite advancements, glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) remains one of the most aggressive brain tumors, with a median survival of 12 months. Genetic alterations are crucial in its prognosis, with mutations in IDH1/2, silencing of MGMT, and the co-deletion of chromosomal arms 1p/19q, recognised as a marker of good prognosis in gliomas due to its association with increased sensitivity to chemotherapy and radiotherapy. The study of genes in these chromosomal regions is of great interest, as they could influence the aggressiveness of lethal brain tumours such as glioblastomas. This study focuses on investigating EMP3 and SLC17A7 genes, located on chromosome 19q, to determine their potential as biomarkers and therapeutic targets in glioblastoma. Their expression, relationship with patient survival, and protein interactions were analyzed using public databases. In addition, the effect of silencing these genes by siRNA in glioblastoma and pancreatic carcinoma cell lines was examining, investigating their impact on cell proliferation and response to drugs such as BCNU and gemcitabine.
