Introduction: Stroke is a pathology with neurological symptoms that affects motor function among other functional abilities. Some types of electrical stimulation can restore motor function in patients. Objective: Search if the use of electrotherapy can recover motor function in patients with stroke and if we can use other therapies with electroterapy to increase this recovery. Material and methods: Different databases with inclusion criteria were used to identify those articles that will provide us with the necessary information. In these articles we searched the parameters of the electrotherapy used, the number of patients, the duration of the sessions and the results that the clinical trials obtained in their participants. Results: The results of the 23 clinical trials found showed data that show that electrotherapy causes motor recovery in patients who suffered from stroke. This recovery was greater if electrotherapy was given with other therapies such as physical training or mirror therapy. Conclusion: This literature review revealed that electrotherapy accompanied by other types of therapy can be effective for motor recovery and increased functionality in patients with stroke.
