This paper investigates the causes and consequences of the loss of the principle of authority of the agents making up the different Security Forces and Corps, which has become blurred in a rapidly changing society, with new forms of communication and information that sometimes lack veracity, sometimes lack rigour and sometimes are of dubious origin or legitimacy, but with one thing in common: they are within the reach of the vast majority of society, fostering polarity among its members. Order, discipline and limits have become outdated words in a fluid and fickle society, increasingly individualistic, where education plays an important role both within the family and at school, where the principle of authority is vital for subsequent harmonious coexistence. Everything suggests that power in general and politics in particular are responsible for the multiple causes that have led to this crisis of authority, a consequence of their interaction with a society that is increasingly angry and repressed by the forces of public order, maintaining the belief that in the face of social violence it is sufficient to increase the police force, moving from a preventive strategy to a repressive solution with a reviled Law for the Protection of Public Security (‘Gag Law’?), and with legislation on police organisation that is outdated and obsolete, and has been in place since the 1980s.
