In this Final Degree Project, we have contributed to the functional characterization of the PHOSPHORYLATED ADAPTOR FOR RNA EXPORT (PHAX) protein in Arabidopsis. For this purpose, we have continued the analysis of genetic interactions, previously initiated in the laboratory, between two putative hypomorphic alleles of the PHAX gene (phax-1 and phax-2), and other null or hypomorphic alleles of genes encoding ribosome biogenesis factors and ribosomal proteins (mtr4-2, parl1-2, rrp7-1, smo4-3, and rps24b-2), or factors related to splicing (amiR-MAS2, prp8-7, and cxip4-2). The absence of double-mutant plants in the F2 and F3 of most of the analyzed crosses, and the synergistic or epistatic phenotype of the few identified double mutants, reveal a functional relationship between the genes under study. Additionally, a null mutant of the ANAC082 gene, which encodes a transcription factor that regulates the nucleolar stress response in Arabidopsis, has been isolated. Crosses with the phax mutants and some of the aforementioned mutants have been initiated to determine whether the phenotypes of these mutants are suppressed in the double mutants, as occurs with other mutants of genes encoding factors involved in translation.
