Historically, the contributions of female scientists to society have been underestimated. Frequently, their works have been ignored or attributed to their male counterparts. Nowadays, society is doing an effort to acknowledge their valuable discoveries and to address this historical injustice.
The main objective of this work is to promote gender equality in science, raise awareness among students about the role of female scientists, and provide resources to educate in an equitable and gender bias-free environment, specifically focusing on the subjects of Biology and Geology.
In order to achieve this, a proposal for a learning situation to be applied in classrooms will be developed. Students will do a reflective exercise about the challenges faced by female scientists and the importance of progressing as a society towards equality by discarding stereotypes. Subsequently, students will work in cooperative groups of four to explore the history of scientists from different eras and analyze the challenges they encountered. Posters will be designed and presented to other student groups.
Through this activity, students will embark on an exciting and interesting journey to learn about female scientists, exploring real-life stories that sometimes surpass fiction. They will also learn values of equality and gender equity and will acquire teamwork skills.
