Background: Helicobacter pylori is a well-known pathogen that infects approximately half of the world's population. She causes chronic gastritis, gastroduodenal ulcers, and gastric cancer, and has been treated with antibiotics and proton-pump inhibitors (PPIs). However, antibiotic treatment alters the indigenous gut microbiota to cause side effects. Therefore, the effects of probiotic supplementation on therapy have been studied. Recent studies have shown that probiotic supplementation has promising application prospects. It can restore the microbiota balance and prevent dysbacteriosis caused by antibiotics. Objective: The main objective of this final degree project is to carry out a systematic review of the existing scientific information on the use of probiotics in a complementary way to the treatment of Helicobacter pylori. Methods: Systematic review of the articles retrieved from the MEDLINE, Scopus and Embase databases. Results: Of 446 articles retrieved, after applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 7 articles were selected that address the use of probiotics during Helicobacter pylori eradication treatment. The use of probiotics has been shown to be beneficial in preventing dysbiosis caused by antibiotics and avoiding the possible occurrence of gastrointestinal diseases. Conclusion: Probiotic supplementation can reduce the antibiotic-induced imbalance of the gut microbiota composition, after H. pylori treatment.
