Introduction: the complementary feeding refers to the stage of life of infants from six months onwards when foods other than breast milk begin to be introduced. One of the most common complementary foods is children's cereals. Their nutritional contribution is analyzed here. Labeling makes it easier for consumers to provide nutritional information and we must check whether the information provided is adequate for a good choice.
Objectives: research on labeling, nutritional composition of children's cereals, the most beneficial components and the creation of a pharmaceutical tool to carry out a good recommendation in the pharmacy.
Materials and methods: in this final degree project we are going to make a compilation of different brands of children’s cereals. With this compilation we will do a statistical analysis of the data to be able to discern the possible nutritional differences between them.
Results and discussion: There are differences in the composition of macro and micronutrients between the cereals studied, such as fiber, carbohydrates, proteins and Vitamin A and D. Differences were found in the protein content if rice cereals are compared with rice cereals with corn. . The comparison between rice and corn with multicereals showed a significant difference in fats, saturated fats, carbohydrates, proteins and fiber. Between rice and multigrain, the differences were for fiber, carbohydrates, proteins, calcium, and vitamins B12, B9, A and D. Finally, the front labeling that appears on food is not enough to improve the information provided to the consumer.
