Weakness, considered as a decrease in strength that can be clinically objectified or a subjective sensation without real loss of strength, is the most persistent symptom 15 days after hospital discharge for Acute Pancreatitis (AP), and is perceived as a great source of concern for patients. Establishing which factors at the beginning and which characteristics during hospital stay determine the persistence of weakness, will allow us the early selection of those patients who will require closer follow-up.
A post-hoc analysis of the PAN-PROMISE study database was performed. The effect of baseline variables present at admission and variables during the AP hospital stay on the persistence of weakness after the episode was analyzed using univariate analysis. A multivariate analysis was performed using logistic regression for those variables that presented a significant association.
507 patients were included. Female sex and advanced age as baseline characteristics present at admission, and the development of SIRS as a complication described in the evolution of the AP, were statistically significantly associated with the presence of weakness greater than or equal to 3 at 15 days after hospital discharge.
