Freedom of speech has always been an open and complex debate as it has been pitted against other freedoms and rights. That is why there has been attempts to regulate it both internationally and nationally through regulations and covenants. Along with the rise of the Internet and social networks, a new panorama is opening when it comes to guaranteeing freedom of speech. As has been the case for some time now, freedom of speech is limited by honor. Therefore, hate speech on networks must be regulated in some way through legislation and jurisprudence. However, education on networks is also necessary so that users do not forget that, behind the screens and usernames, there are still people with rights and freedom. Instagram, the most famous social network among influencers (a new figure in the network landscape), has taken some actions. Thus, we see how these rules´ application does have an effective impact. Cristina Pedroche´s case has been one of the most talked about in August. As a result of an Instagram publication by the journalist, a rain of hateful comments poured over her. Once again, users of the networks have argued (in better or worse ways) about the freedom of both the presenter to publish content, as well as the freedom of users to express their opinion about it. This is an example of how further progress must be made so that the networks can be a free but respectful place. This requires rules, legislation, education, and individual awareness.
