This final degree project focuses on exploring and analyzing the role and representation of women in the music industry in Spain, with a special focus on the rap and urban music scene. Throughout history, music has reflected society and its changes, but it has also exposed entrenched inequalities. Despite the growing popularity of rap in Spain, women continue to have a limited and often underestimated presence in this scene. The paper seeks to understand why female artists have less visibility and recognition, whether the recognition they receive is unequal, what differences exist in the marketing approach used on women, and whether Spanish society and culture have evolved in this regard. Through a four-part podcast with female rap artists, producers and urban music experts, it aims to shed light on the reality of women in the music industry, highlight the challenges they face and explore possible solutions to achieve greater equity and inclusion. The study reveals that, despite some progress, challenges and inequalities persist in the representation of women in music. It also highlights the importance of addressing not only the music industry, but also the social and cultural aspects that perpetuate these inequalities.
