Introduction. Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) rupture is a serious injury to the knee that
causes joint instability, decreased activity, ineffective knee performance, decreased quality of
life in the short term, and increased risk of osteoarthritis. on your knees. The type of treatment
is still debatable because both surgical and conservative can provide satisfactory results.
Objectives. Carry out a bibliographic search to find out which treatment, surgical or
conservative, is more effective and provides better results for recovery after an ACL tear.
Material and methods. A bibliographic search was carried out from the scientific literature
available in the following databases: Pubmed, PEDro, Cochrane and SciELO.
Results. There is considerable variation in terms of age, number of participants and gender
between the different articles in this review, as well as in the results of functionality between
different studies. Surgery decreases knee laxity, does not seem to increase the incidence of OA,
and it is not clear that it decreases the number of subsequent meniscal procedures.
Proprioception is mostly affected in the surgical group.
Conclusions. Both types of treatment, surgical and conservative, improve with time, however
surgical treatment seems to be more effective and provide better results for recovery after an
ACL tear
