Introduction: adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) represents the most common form of scoliosis with 90% of occurrence, the most common complications are pain, pulmonary dysfunction and psychosocial problems. Schroth exercise is prescribed during the growth stage to delay progression, although the effects are unclear. This review aims to establish the effectiveness of the Schroth method in reducing the scoliotic curve in adolescents. Furthermore, it aims to define the ideal treatment frequency, the influence of curve type and the effectiveness of the exercises combined with other therapies. Methods: a literature review was carried out in Pubmed, Scopus and Web Of Science databases. Study quality was evaluated according to the PEDro scale and the NOS scale. Results: eleven articles were examined, of which eight were randomized clinical trials, two observational studies and one case series. Nine studies showed positive results on Cobb angle reduction, four studies on trunk rotation angle, two on patient perception and one on lung function. No consensus was reached on the frequency of exercise. Conclusions: the evidence suggests that Schroth exercises are effective in the management of AIT, however, due to the paucity of studies and differences in treatment period and outcome measures, further research is needed to obtain conclusive results
