Kimberly is a Hungarian woman with achondroplasia who lives and moves around the
streets of the city of Alicante carrying a fan to cover her face so that passers-by won't take
photos of her without her consent. As an extremely short, dwarf woman, she is a magnet for
curious onlookers and selfie addicts. She survives by working on the street, posing for those
who will exchange images for money. Kimberly spent her whole life in the circus, until she
was left alone and had no choice but to come to Spain. She lives objectified, in an
environment that mistreats her. In a society that calls itself advanced in terms of democracy,
freedom and equality, Kimberly has to survive by exhibiting her physical deformity. In
addition to enduring the anxiety and harassment of passers-by who try to capture her with
their mobile phones, she also lives in a city that is completely disproportionate to her body.
The urban territory is what we walk through every day, and for Kim it is a daily challenge.
This work is divided into two parts, differentiating two aspects, the human, in the form of
an artist's diary, in which we will find textualised impressions of a previous fieldwork, and
which, in the form of a biography, is divided into the most important chapters of Kimberly's
life. On the other hand, and in color, we will find the theoretical framework, where the
concepts to be dealt with will be presented with reference to each of the chapters of the
diary.
These concepts revolve around dialogues and reflections on a body in front of a city and its
drifts.
We will establish our field of action, using the resources of photography, to generate a flow
of thought and visual work that aims to reflect on the way of understanding the world, not
only as an individual but also as part of an increasingly globalized society.
