Abstract:
Ulcers are wounds with a poor tendency to heal. They can be caused by various factors such as infections, venous insufficiency, sedentary lifestyle, toxic habits… In the evidence we found a prevalence between 6-24%, mainly affecting people over 65 years of age. Photobiomodulation is recommended to treat stage II-IV ulcers in clinical guidelines published by the European Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel (NPUAP). Objectives: The main purpose of the bibliographic review is to know the effectiveness of photobiomodulation therapy in patients with ulcers and post-surgical wounds on the skin. Material & Methods: A bibliographic search is carried out in PubMed, Science Direct and Scopus databases on photobiomodulation in ulcers and post-surgical wounds, obtaining 1594 articles. After passing filters, inclusion criteria and exclusion criteria, 6 of them are valid for the bibliographic review. Results: The 6 clinical trials provided information on the different parameters that can be used in photobiomodulation. The different treatments with photobiomodulation showed better results than the conventional treatment. Conclusion: Significant improvements have been observed thanks to photobiomodulation therapy in the treatment of chronic wounds, among which wound closure, healing time and biological parameters to be considered stand out, thus improving patient health and independence.
