Due to demographic changes, there has been an accelerated aging of the global population
and changes in longevity in recent decades. In fact, the United Nations estimates that 8% of
the world's population is over 65 years old. In the case of Elche, 14.75% of the population is
over 65 years old, which is a total of 37,365 people. This is a high percentage that highlights
the need to intervene with this segment of the population.
In line with this, the World Health Organization has established Sustainable Development
Goal 3 of the 2030 Agenda (health and well-being) and is promoting both the Decade of
Healthy Aging and the Global Network of Age-Friendly Cities to create dignified
environments for aging.
It has been decided to design an intervention program with the general objective of
promoting the psychological well-being of older adults and active aging, improving their
adaptation to the stage of old age. The program consists of eight sessions, through which
topics such as assertiveness, emotional management, cognitive distortions, coping
strategies, problem-solving, mindfulness, and self-compassion will be addressed.
