Introduction: MM is an abnormal and clonal growth of CP. Main symptoms are bone pain, asthenia and kidney failure. Newest drugs have succeeded in improving overall survival, however those with high risk MM continue to have poor prognosis. This study addresses 14;16 translocation.
Objectives: Main goals are to establish MM t(14;16) prognosis, to assess its main characteristics and to evaluate the different treatment possibilities.
Methods: We conducted a bibliographic review in the PubMed database. In addition, we also conducted a review of Hospital General Universitario Dr. Balmis’ MM t(14;16) patients who underwent TASP.
Results: Studies showed, as well as hospital’s casuistry, that this translocation is rather infrequent. Worse prognosis is proved due to less deep responses and early progressions. Regarding the available therapies, more research is needed to establish clear recommendations on this specific translocation.
Conclusions: The prognosis of MM t(14;16) patients remains poor despite the existing therapies. With current treatments, including TASP, deep responses are achieved, however, they are short-lasting, with frequent recurrences.
