This intervention program is aimed at children and adolescents who have a diagnosis
of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). ASD is a neurodevelopmental disorder which usually
brings with it difficulties in learning, social participation, communication and motor skills. It
has been shown that hydrotherapy and water sports is a therapeutic tool that has great
benefits in this group.
The general objective of this program is to improve the adaptive behaviors of people
between the ages of 4 and 18 diagnosed with ASD through sports activities and to find out
its effect on their quality of life. The objectives of the program are to increase social skills,
improve motor skills and perform leisure activities at least twice a week once the intervention
plan is finished. In order to achieve the objectives, set, both general and specific, different
activities will be carried out, both cooperative and individual. The intervention will be carried
out with people who meet the inclusion and exclusion requirements and who come from the
clinics where this service will be offered.
This program will last 3 months, with a total of 41 sessions that include evaluation,
execution of the intervention, and re-evaluation. It will be held 3 times a week with a duration
of 45 minutes each session. The sessions will be made up of groups of a maximum of 6
participants in each one, two groups will be formed that will carry out the sessions at
different times, they will be separated by age ranges.
The evaluation will be carried out using the Brunks-Oseretsky test of motor
proficiency-2 (Bot-2) evaluation tools and the Vineland 3 adaptive behavior scale and the
Kids Life-TEA scale to see if the program has an impact on the quality of life of children and
adolescents.
