Antecedentes e historia de la Policia Local de Castalla

Abstract

El objetivo del presente trabajo ha sido la búsqueda de los antecedentes y pri meros pasos de la actual policía local de Castalla. Para ello, además de llevar a cabo una amplia consulta bibliográfica, hemos espigado la documentación existente en el Archivo Municipal de Castalla y hemos recogido los testimonios de antiguos agentes de policía y otros funcionarios. Toda esta documentación nos ha permitido averiguar el origen de este cuerpo de seguridad dependiente de la autoridad municipal y cuyo ámbito de ac tuación es el Municipio. Entre sus antecedentes hemos averiguado que el orden público de las ciudades en España, era mantenido por varios cuerpos y empleados públicos, como fue la Milicia Nacional, los Alguaciles y los Serenos o vigilantes nocturnos y la Guardia Municipal durante el siglo XIX. Más tarde en el XX perdurarían los anteriores, excepto la Milicia Nacional, ya que era más de carácter político, predominando la Guardia Municipal cómo cuerpo de seguridad pública y de tráfico hasta la mitad del si glo cuando se creó la Policía Municipal. A continuación dicha Policía Municipal, ya en trada la democracia en 1986, se convirtió en la Policía Local, un cuerpo con más funcio nes y un mayor carácter de autoridad.

The objective of the present work has been the search of the antecedents and the first steps of the current local police of Castalla. To do this, in addition to carrying out an extensive bibliographical consultation, we have gleaned the existing documentation in the Municipal Archive of Castalla and we have collected the testimonies of former police officers and other officials. All this documentation has allowed us to find out the origin of this security body dependent on the municipal authority and whose scope of action is the Municipality. Among its antecedents we have found out that the public order of the cities in Spain was maintained by various public bodies and employees, such as the National Militia, the sheriffs and the night men or night watchmen and the Municipal Guard during the 19th century. Later in the 20th the previous ones would last, except for the National Militia, since it was more of a political nature, with the Municipal Guard predominating as a body of public security and traffic until the middle of the century when the Municipal Police was created. Afterwards, said Municipal Police, once democracy entered in 1986, became the Local Police, a body with more functions and a greater character of authority.
