Casetes de paper: Intrahistòria del barri de La Teulera a Elx

Abstract

Esta investigació es du a terme mitjançant una metodologia qualitativa que observa, contrasta, examina i interpreta diferents materials amb l’objectiu de conéixer el passat i l’evolució del barri de la Teulera, així com el de l'entorn que l’envolta i la seua història més immediata. D’esta manera, s’estudien diferents publicacions físiques, virtuals, escrites i audiovisuals que ens ajuden a entendre el Raval de Sant Joan en la seua cronologia fins a l'actualitat: de Vila independent (Moreria) a zona privilegiada, passant per zona obrera. Precisament és este trànsit de zona obrera a zona exclusiva allò que més representen les “Casetes de paper” i la seua desaparició. La motivació d’este treball naix de la manca de publicacions i reflexions crítiques sobre este episodi de la història il·licitana, per tant, té l’obligació de satisfer una necessitat informativa i de divulgació i preservació històriques. La conclusió que s'extreu és clara: l’interés del consistori municipal d’Elx per relocalitzar als habitants de “La Teulera” en vivendes perifèriques pensades per al proletariat industrial té un origen estricte d’imatge pública, neteja de zones històriques, facilitació del mercat urbanístic i missatge social enfocat a un canvi de paradigma de la ciutat com a atractiu turístic.

This research is carried out using a qualitative methodology that observes, contrasts, examines and interprets different materials with the aim of knowing the past and evolution of the Teulera neighborhood, as well as the surrounding environment and its immediate history. In this way, different physical, virtual, written and audiovisual publications are studied to help us to understand the Saint Joseph Raval in its chronology to the present day: from an Independent Vila (Moreria) to an exclusive zone, passing through a working zone. It is precisely this traffic from a working area to an exclusive zone that represents the "paper houses" and their destruction. The motivation of this work stems from the lack of critical publications and reflections on this episode of the Elx history, therefore it is obliged to satisfy an informative and historical need for cultural dissemination and preservation. The conclusion drawn is clear: The current gentrification of the city of Elx is very similar to other Spanish cities leading to exponential industrial growth in the 1960s. In addition, the re-evaluation of the price of the land in areas that have hither to been considered poor is also a common element of these municipalities. On the other hand, we could also conclude that the interest of Elx Council to relocate the substandard housing of "La Teulera" in Official Protection Lifes has a strict public image origin, clearing historical areas, facilitating new urbanism and social message aimed at a paradigm shift in the city as attractive to tourism.
