Abstract:
Objetivo. La escala SEMI-SCORE se ha validado para determinar el riesgo de insuficiencia respiratoria en pacientes hospitalizados por COVID-19. Objective. The SEMI-score has been validated in order to asess the risk of respiratory failure in admitted COVID patients. Our study aims to determine whether the scale is effective to predict readmission or reconsultation in pneumonia patients due to SARS-COV-2 after release from an emergency department (ED).
Methods. Retrospective cohort study of patients with pneumonia caused by SARS-CoV-2 discharged consecutively of ED of a tertiary hospital, from January 7th to February 17th 2021. The SEMI-score s is applied with a cut off point of 9 points to asses the risk of readmission or reconsultation. The main result variable was reconsultation with or without readmission 30 days after discharge from the ED.
Results. Seventy-seven patients were included, average age being 59 years, 63.6% were male and Charlson index 2 points. The 9.1% reconsulted in ED and 15.3% were readmitted inhospital. Relative risk (RR) for ED reconsultation was 0,46 (0,04-4,62, IC 95 %, p =0,452) and RR of readmission was 6,88 (1,20-39,49, IC 95 %, p < 0,005).
Conclusion. SEMI-score is effective to asess readmission in discharged patients on ED caused by SARS-CoV-2 but it is not useful for reconsultation risk without deferred readmission
