Abstract:
Background: Chronic-degenerative diseases, and specifically high blood pressure, are aggravated by poor control that can lead to serious complications and even death. This is why medication adherence is important to control the disease in the long term. To assess adherence, we can use direct methods, such as taking blood pressure, and indirect methods, such as the Haynes-Sackett test and the Morisky-Green test. Methods: We have carried out a cross-sectional descriptive observational study in a Community Pharmacy in Petrer. Through a clinical interview where we apply indirect methods, along with blood pressure measure, we will determine the concordance shown between direct and indirect methods in our patients. Results: The bivariate analysis reveals that 50.8% of the patients in the study are not adherent, in addition, the degree of adherence increases in the case of women with more than 70%. The multivariate analysis confirms that non-compliance is less frequent among women, furthermore, it increases with the number of diseases present in the patient. The Haynes-Sackett test as an indirect method has shown a very high sensitivity and specificity. Discussion: The results obtained demonstrate the existence of a problem in medication adherence, since at least one out of every two patients does not present adherence. Regarding the other variables studied, we can affirm that the probability of being adherent to treatment is increased according to the variables being a woman and having fewer diseases
