The consumption of electronic cigarettes through the vaping technique has been on the rise in recent years. Possibly one of the causes of the increase in the consumption of these electronic cigarettes is that they are advertised as harmless alternatives, or at least healthier, to the consumption of traditional tobacco. However, this marketing strategy is not at all scientifically justified. In this Final Degree Project, we have identified, through a bibliographic search, 127 different chemical substances in the aerosols generated by vaping. Many of these substances are toxic by inhalation, although the risk of adverse effects appears to be low. Some of these substances are also reprotoxic, and the reproductive risk from e-cigarette use is still uncharacterized and non-assessed. A large number of genotoxic and carcinogenic substances have also been found that act without a toxicity threshold and therefore put the health of both active and passive smokers at risk.
