Introduction: Handball is a team sport involving 6 field players located in different positions and a goalkeeper, such sport is considered as a contact sport so players face numerous musculoskeletal injuries throughout their sport career. It consists of a complex biomechanics that places handball as one of the 4 most athletic sports with the highest risk of injury. It has been shown that there is a higher prevalence of lower limb injuries than in the upper limb. Objectives: The main objective of this review is to demonstrate the effectiveness of preventive exercises aimed at knee injuries, which are the most common lower limb injuries, the cause of these injuries and when they occur most frequently. Methodology: Bibliographic search of studies published from 2010 to the present that different types of intervention for lower limb in handball in PubMed, Web of Science and Scopus databases. Results: 13 clinical trials were included. In these 13 articles we discuss the implementation of neuromuscular training programs, preventive programs, trajectory analysis and landings. Analyzed with EMG, cameras, dynamometers and force measurement platforms. Conclusion: The importance of implementing neuromuscular and preventive training to the training dynamics of a handball team was evidenced, as well as the teaching of good landing mechanics
