ABSTRACT:
INTRODUCTION: Core dysfunctions are usually associated with deficits in neuromuscular control, causing uncontrolled movements of the trunk during sudden movements, leading the lower limbs to valgus positions, considered a risk factor for knee injury.
OBJETIVE: To review the existing scientific literature on improving core fitness as a preventive measure for knee injuries.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: The search was carried out through the Pubmed, Scopus and Cochrane databases, selecting clinical trials from 2013 to 2022. The methodological quality was evaluated using the PEDro scale. RESULTS: A total of 13 articles were included, of which 3 showed a reduction in the incidence of knee injuries, 8 showed an improvement in the values of the factors considered to be at risk, and in 1 study an expert committee established a prevention program that included core exercises and only 1 study had no favorable results
CONCLUSIONS: The results of this research have shown to be favorable regarding the improvement of the physical condition of the core as a preventive measure of knee injuries, when carrying out an exercise program focused mainly on the core, although accompanied by other exercises of the lower extremities.
