Background: Going through the intensive care unit leaves sequels that may last months and affect
heavily in the daily life of the patient. Down to this, know if a program based in early mobilization is
able to reduce the time expended in the unit and make easier the recovery after it, is the main reason to
carry out this review, also how this kind of intervention concern the healthcare expenses.
Materials and methods: A research were made about clinical trials and observational studies, between
the 28th and the 29th of March of 2022, published since the last ten years, in the data bases Medline,
Scielo y PEDro about the effects of the early mobilization of patients in Intensive Care Units. Results: 13 studies were selected, 3 of them identify that a program based in early mobilization reduce
the stance in the unit and 4 studies don’t find differences. As regards the red flags of the early
mobilization, 4 authors identify them when circumstances like a decrease of the arterial pressure
<60mmHg, decrease in the oxygen saturation <88% or 85%, falls, newly appearing arrhythmia, cardiac
rhythm >140 puls/min or unforeseen extubation appeared. In relation to the sanitary expenses, 3 studies
show that a program based in early mobilization reduce it and one say that there is any difference.
Conclusion: The results of this review don’t show agreement about the effects of the intervention taken
to study. The early mobilization of patients is implemented in most of the ICUs. Stand out, that the ratio
of nurses:patient and physiotherapists:patient have an effect on the results. More research studies that
describe protocols of early mobilization in ICUs will be need.
