The use of art therapy in the field of psychology has proven effective in treating common symptoms of various mental disorders, such as anxiety, depression and low self-esteem. Among the disorders in which this type of therapy has been used, there are also eating disorders (EDs). In the case of ED treatment, studies and reviews have been realized that prove the efficacy of different types of art therapy, except for drawing therapy. This study aims to carry out a systematic review of the studies in which drawing therapy techniques have been applied in patients with eating disorders. The search for articles was performed in the Scopus, PsycInfo, Web of Science, and Pubmed databases. A total of 103 studies were found, which 5 met the inclusion criteria. The works presented in this review are non-controlled and non-randomized, cross-sectional studies, except in one of the cases. The therapies are mainly based on techniques that consist of the patient drawing their own silhouette, or making drawings to express emotions or feelings. In 3 of the 5 cases, this therapy was carried out in a complementary way with other therapies or treatments. The results indicate that this therapy improves depressive and anxiety symptoms, as well as the self-concept and self-esteem of patients. More studies, with larger samples, with a randomized controlled trial design, are needed to consider this therapy of choice in eating disorders, although it may be useful as a complement to current therapies.
