Abstract:
Introduction
The use of epidural anesthesia is widely used for the treatment of labor pain and for the performance of cesarean section type 2 and 3 in those patients who require it for obstetric reasons. However, on occasions, pain coverage is not adequate, resulting in what is known as an inadequate epidural block. There are certain factors that increase the risk of this event, such as body mass index, multiparity, subsequent presentation, among others. Objectives
The aim of this study is to determine whether SARS-CoV2 infection could be considered as another risk factor for the presence of inadequate block, which would result in a lower metameric level and a higher preanesthetic epidural reinforcement in the case of type 2 and 3 cesarean section. In addition, obstetric and perinatal outcomes would be compared between both populations. Material and methods. The results obtained after a 6-month prospective observational case-control study in the delivery room of the Hospital Clínico Universitario Virgen de la Arrixaca will be analyzed. Data was collected from COVID-19+ patients, in a 1:3 ratio. Elements related to anesthesia and obstetric and perinatal outcomes of both populations would be compared.
