COVID-19 protective behaviours COVID-19 (CPC in Spanish) recommended by the health authorities are frequent hand washing / disinfection, mask use and physical distancing, these being the main strategies to end the pandemic. The objective of this study was to explore the degree of correlation among COVID-19 risk perception, COVID-19 perceived severity, functional fear, perceived effectiveness of CPCs and perceived self-efficacy to carry out CPCs, and the frequency of CPCs implementation. This descriptive-cross-sectional study explored these variables between July 27th and 31th 2020 through various validated and ad-hoc questionnaires using Google Forms. The sample consisted of 264 subjects (70.3% women). The results showed a lack of significant correlation between risk perception, perceived severity and functional fear towards COVID-19, and the frequency of CPCs implementation. Correlations between CPCs effectiveness perception and self-efficacy to perform them, and their frequency of performance were significant and relevant. These results could differ from those found in other studies as restrictive measures imposed by the Spanish State would make behaviours to be less influenced by individual variables. Future research and interventions should focus on exploring this, and on reducing barriers to effectiveness perception and self-efficacy.
