Journalism is currently going through a stage of deep changes. With the technological revolution, the media had the need to adapt to new technologies, social networks and, at the same time, experiment with new business models and income due to the fall in advertising.
This leads us to create new processes of transformation and adaptation of Costa Rican journalism through innovation understood as a strategy.
In this Final Degree Project, we will analyze the concept of innovation through interviews with professionals in the sector in which they explain their working method, their business models, their strategies and the application of innovative processes in their media such as La Nación, CRHoy and La República. These three media, pioneers in Costa Rica, provide us with their vision and current relevance in this new ecosystem.
In this research, in addition to the organization of these media, the new journalistic ventures and innovation models that are applied in the country, both regionally and nationally, will be known, analyzing the impact of social networks that have had on them and knowing the development of native digital media.
The print and television media in Costa Rica have been the sectors that have been able to resurface through innovation, lagging the radio media. They apply this innovation day by day, improving their strategies and using new ways of working.
There are also four case studies that reveal the level and quality of Costa Rican journalism, La Nación Data, Amelia Rueda, Costa Rica Azul and The Tico Times. All of them arose from an idea, they gave way to entrepreneurship and, with the need to expose their ideas and transmit the information to their public, they became an innovative means of communication, contributing their perspective of communication to the country.
