The profession of journalism changes daily and has been adapting and reinventing since its inception to all the changes that have appeared so as not to be left behind and, therefore, improve the profession.
Social networks have appeared as a new technological tool to establish themselves in the current information landscape. With this new communication model, any user can interact by offering content and be participants in the creation. However, this new model encounters a negative point that is affecting on a large scale the credibility of the information and the professionals who publish it. It's disinformation and fake news.
The emergence of social networks such as Twitter, Facebook or Instagram has helped countless consumers to be informed about any topic, but also about what they need and what suits them best according to their ideals and convictions.
But not everything has been positive, since fake news has appeared. One of its main objectives is to create bewilderment and misinform through hoax or manipulated news.
To alleviate this infodemic, the media have echoed it and have not remained static about this problem, since over the years they have been acquiring measures to fight against the increase in fake news and have initiated verification projects in the media themselves. Which is carried out through fact checking.
The main objective of this paper is to analyse the increase in fake news on social networks, to present some examples of relevant cases in which there is a large number of manipulated news and to show some examples of verification tools that have been implemented to try to stop their escalation.
