It’s well known that people diagnosed with a Severe Mental Disorder share characteristics
such as greater vulnerability to stress, a lack of skills to manage oneself autonomously, poor
quality of life, and overall, a variable degree of long-term disability and social dysfunction. In
this study, we have been concerned with a therapeutic objective that has frequently remained
in the background to the notoriety of positive psychotic symptoms or cognitive deficits. It is
the suffering that these patients show, linked to the aversion and discomfort with which they
experience their cognitive, perceptual and sensory experiences, which interferes with their
psychological well-being, life satisfaction, and, in addition to this, the construction of a
dignified and normalized life project. We then suggest an intervention proposal that when
integrating within the Recovery Model and integral work dynamics of the service in which it
will be developed, contributes a change of vision and attitude towards the experience of the disorder and life experiences that these people are facing. It is a group therapy program that
combines various techniques based on Mindfulness to increase attention and awareness in the
present, with Positive Psychology exercises that favor the development of the five domains
proposed by the P.E.R.M.A. Model of psychological well-being. We have a sample of four
participants users from Dr. Esquerdo's Center for Rehabilitation and Social Integration
(CRIS), in a pre-post quasi-experimental design and we are additionally considering a
consultation with a panel of experts on the adequacy of the proposal.
