Introduction: The investigation of the students´s concept of Occupational Balance (OB) is limited. It is important to delve into the OB conception of OT (occupational therapy) students, because knowing and understanding this concept is fundamental to their professional practice. Objective: Describe the concept of OB of the students of 1º degree of TO of the Universidad Miguel Hernández (UMH). Methods: This qualitative study is part of a larger investigation of “Occupational Balance in Occupational Therapy students”. We used the focal group as a technique for collecting information, through a semi-structured interview. We also used a thematic analysis to analyze the results. Two focal groups were organized with 21 students from 1st OT of the UMH. Interviews had been last about 2 hours, they had been audio recorded and they were transcribed for a future analysis. Results: The main topic was “The concept of Occupational Balance”. Students developed 4 subtopics: definition of OB (stability, health and life quality), determinant factors (kind of activities, environment…), fluctuating OB (time, epoch, and events) and causes of OD (positive, negative, for defect or excess of occupation). Conclusions: Students defined OB as the balance between diary activities, social activities and obligatory activities for each person. OB is fluctuating in time and affects right on health and life quality.
