Introduction: In Spain, rectal cancer is one of the most frequent cases of cancer, and represents the second cause of death from neoplasia in our country. When we talk about this disease, it is necessary to include the term “quality of life”, because despite the advances in medicine that have allowed to prolong human life, the treatments to which these users are subjected, can cause sequelae that may become permanent. Objective: To elaborate assistance protocol by an occupational therapist used for the intervention after the diagnosis of rectal cancer and contribute to improve the quality of life. Materials and Methodology: The creation of the present protocol has been carried out taking into account all the symptoms and situations that the patient may suffer. The population subject to this intervention will be patients of legal age, diagnosed with rectal cancer who will have to undergo surgery, coexisting in turn, a poor quality of life. Discussion: The implementation of systematic actions of occupational therapy are necessary from the diagnosis of the disease, and all throughout the following process, in order to contribute in the improvement of the acceptance on the alterations that rectal cancer will cause on the patient. Conclusion: There have been few researches on the intervention of occupational therapy in cancer patients. In spite of this, I affirm that the benefits of this type of treatments and the positive impact in all areas of occupation, decrease dependency levels and improve the quality of life.
