Retirement, characterized by the cessation of work activity and obtaining a pension, can be
experienced positively or negatively. On the one hand, the person can feel happiness or tranquility. On
the other hand, it can lead to a decrease in social life, an alteration of the mood and even an inability to
find new significant activities, which can produce an alteration of the Occupational Balance (OB).
Therefore, we consider it is necessary to carry out OB promotion programs in this group. Thus, in this
project we describe a research protocol whose general objective is to evaluate the effectiveness of a
retirement adaptation program to maintain the OB in people recently retired or close to retirement.
We raise an experimental study consists of n = 100 people recently retired or close to
retirement, from the province of Almeria. Those participants who suffer from a central nervous system
disease with the possibility of neuropsychological involvement will be excluded, as well as those with
oral language disorders that prevent participation in the sessions or have previously participated in a
similar program. The experimental group (n = 50) will complete the intervention program, while the
control group (n = 50) will only perform initial and final evaluation. The complete program will last
17 weeks (a total of 16 sessions) and will consist of 4 phases: evaluation, knowledge acquisition,
exploration of different activities and re-evaluation. The variables under study will be OB, depression,
self-esteem, satisfaction with life and satisfaction with the program.
