Introduction: plantar warts are caused by the human papilloma virus. They are benign lesions affecting the skin and mucous membranes and are characterized by having a layer of hyperkeratosis, bleeding points and absence of dermatoglyphics. Sometimes they produce pain to pinch and/or pressure. They mainly affect the juvenile stage, immunosuppressed patients and athletes who are in contact with areas of moisture. They have an incubation period of 4 to 20 months and although it may disappear spontaneously over a period of up to 2 years, the application of treatment is recommended to favour its development and prevent contagion. Objectives: to determine if there is scientific evidence in the treatment with nitric acid for plantar warts. Material and methods: search in different databases on articles related to the treatment of nitric acid. Results: there are few studies about this treatment, which show us that it is a safe, effective and efficient treatment and that it is usually used for long-term warts, presenting a high level of healing, in a short period of time and in a way painless Conclusions: there is no ideal treatment scientifically proven for its cure, so the choice of treatment will depend on the characteristics of the injury and the patient. Nitric acid belongs to the first treatment modality and despite being a treatment that lacks scientific evidence, it does present empirical evidence, which is why it is still the treatment of choice for many podiatrists
