The pandemic of COVID-19 has had a negative effect on mental health on the general population, but even more on specific groups, as health care workers, who have suffered higher work stress during this period as a direct consequence of the pandemic. The aim of this systematic review is to analyse the impact of the pandemic of COVID-19 on mental health of health care workers, and also to figure out which elements may have cause this situation. For that reason, several searches have been made in two different databases, ScienceDirect and Pubmed, following the PRISMA methodology, and so, 16 studies fulfil all standards and have been included in this review. The main result of this review is that a great number of health care workers have developed anxiety disorder, depression, sleep disorders and burnout. Excessive workload, fear of contagion and lack of personal protection equipment have worsened work conditions and as a result, it have caused a negative effect on mental health of health professionals.
