The so-called 'fourth power' has great influence on the public, forgetting and showing the presentness it desires. World leaders have always been aware of the importance of the media and used it to propagate their ideologies. The reality we know is created on the basis of information, honoring the phrase that says: if it doesn't appear in the media, there's no. When this reality finds its epicenter in a war, the media becomes transmitters of biased information. They have sometimes become weapons of war that fuel the encouragement between the opposing parties. They are key pieces to win the support of the people and the sympathy of international opinion. By the 1990s, the news media exploited the Balkan wars informatively. Bosnia and Herzegovina became one of the most covered places in the media. The nationalist hatred of political leaders became the editorial line of newspapers, televisions and radios. Foreign media exaggerated data and even falsified it. Journalists were harassed and attacked while doing their work. The Bosnian war demonstrated, not only that the spread of hatred is easy, but also how some media manipulate the information, thus missing the basic principle of journalism, that of respect for the truth. This work aims to show, through bibliographic review and structured interviews, how the media are capable of creating a reality through censorship and misinformation. We will see how in Bosnia and Herzegovina the local media became the main conduits for hate propaganda and how foreigners exploited and created a distorted image of the Bosnian population that they maintain today
