INTRODUCTION: For both injury prevention and performance improvement, good proprioception is essential. The asymmetries between both limbs both in the horizontal jump and in the vertical jump produce a decrease in performance. In addition to being considered a valid tool to detect players with a high risk of injury, it could also play an important role in performance.
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effectiveness of propioceptive exercises of the lower limb in the increase of sports performance in soccer players.
METHODS: Twenty-three soccer players were recruited who received a protocol of proprioceptive exercises, consisting of sixteen sessions of twenty minutes, performing two exercises for ten minutes each one. The exercises varied each week. The dependent variables were performance (using the SHT and THT) and proprioception (using the SEBT).
RESULTS: The comparative analysis between the Pre-training and the Follow-up shows us that there is a statistically significant improvement in all the measurement variables of the Hop Tests, and as for the SEBT, there is an improvement in all the measurement variables except only the Front Left, PosteroLateral Right, PosteroLateral Left, Lateral Right and Lateral Left.
No statistically significant improvements were observed in the asymmetry indices because healthy subjects were studied at the beginning of the study, but despite this, the asymmetry indices improved, approaching as much as one hundred percent symmetry.
CONCLUSION: Sports performance in soccer players, as well as proprioception, improves after the application of a proprioceptive exercise protocol. Performance and proprioception improvements may depend on the variables of age and BMI.
KEYWORDS: Sports performance; soccer players; propioception; physiotherapy.
