The objectives of this Final Degree Project were to identify the main challenges that family businesses in the province of Alicante currently face and to draw up a set of recommendations that allow for the effective approach to these challenges and thus contribute , to the survival of family businesses. The study was carried out in three phases. In a first phase, an analysis of the environment in which family businesses operate today was carried out in order to establish a starting point for the study. For this, the SWOT tool (Weaknesses, Threats, Strengths and Opportunities) was used, which identified both the internal and external aspects of the company and its "strong" and "weak" points. The second phase consisted of a cross-sectional field study with a sample of professionals belonging to family businesses in the province of Alicante and related entities. An ad hoc survey was used to identify and prioritize the main challenges currently facing the family business. In the third and last phase, based on the information gathered and analyzed in the previous phases, the CAME matrix was developed, aimed at Correcting Weaknesses, Facing Threats, Maintaining Strengths and Exploiting the Opportunities identified. The results obtained in the first phase of the study allowed us to address both the analysis of the environment in which family businesses operate and the Weaknesses (generational succession and relief, wealth management or the lack of family protocol) Threats (globalization , digital transformation or new forms of commerce) the Strengths (the trajectory, the quality of the product or service or own values) and the Opportunities (the internationalization of the company or investment in R&D) that are presented in this type of companies. In the same way, the results obtained in the second phase were obtained, which allowed showing both the seven challenges that family businesses face (such as generational succession and relief, family protocol or heritage management), such as the degree of perception, coincidence, advantages and disadvantages about them. The last phase allowed the description of fourteen strategies to correct, confront, maintain and exploit these remains from the company's available resources. These strategies were classified into survival (developing a clear and agreed family protocol that contemplates generational succession or wealth management), adaptive (taking advantage of the synergies offered by associations and partners or digital transformation, defensive (promoting the concept of corporate social responsibility or investment in training) and offensive (investment in R&D or expansion of the company). As a culmination to the study, and in order to facilitate the preparation of strategic planning and guide of good practices by family businesses, a series of recommendations were prepared associated with the different challenges that they must face in the 21st century. In the same way, it was found that in order to face the identified challenges, maintaining their mission, vision and values, Alicante family businesses need a specific strategic plan that, beyond guaranteeing their survival, enhances their development and progress in the context current, taking care of aspects such as family protocol, the preservation of family heritage or the generational change.
